Swimming and athletics skills are developed and tested in a carnival atmosphere which provides a personal best attitude.
The school provides training opportunities for participation in District and Catholic Zone inter-school competitions.
Students in older year levels are involved in weekly interschool sports during term 2 of the school year. School representative sporting opportunities exist in Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country. District representative opportunities exist as we are affiliated with the Bramble Bay District Sports Association which offers trials in Netball, Touch, Tennis, Soccer, Hockey, Cricket and Rugby League.
St Pius students have achieved notable successes in a variety of sporting endeavours at the District, Regional and Queensland Team levels. Students are encouraged to train in order to achieve a satisfactory level of performance before attending District Carnivals, which can ultimately lead to Queensland representation.
Cross Country
Students interested in being considered for the District competition (which can lead on to Regional and State levels) must be involved in a mandatory training schedule prior to the event. Basic cross country training is offered to provide a level of fitness to compete in the school cross country, held annually, and the Catholic Zone 6 events.
Swimming
St Pius School is fortunate to have its own swimming pool. Swimming instruction is conducted by qualified instructors in both term one and term four.
Special consideration is given to non-swimmers or poor swimmers. The program is based on water safety leading to stroke development and correction while older students are instructed in basic life saving skills. Swimming is considered an essential part of the school physical education program, consequently all children are expected to participate each week unless a note explaining absence is obtained from a parent.
